With appreciation to Marvin Purser for sharing this
poem with us.  It was written by his wife, Connie.

"How Will You Know?"

How will you know
That I love you,
If I yell at you every day?
But if I try to speak softly,
Will you be able
To hear what I say?

How will you know
That I love you,
If I'm always on your case?
How will you know
That I'm caring
With this exasperated look
On my face?

I only want what's best for you!
And what's best for you is
Best for me.
I want to help you
Reach your potential,
So that some day,
You'll be free...

Free to soar through the heavens!
Free to pursue your best dreams!
Free to achieve!
To progress!
To surpass!
The best member
On any team!

For I am only a teacher;
Just one among many, you see,
Who may need a
Gentle reminder
Of what we were
Sent here to be.

Not just teachers of English or Science,
Social Studies, Math or P.E.
But teachers of students,
Not subjects;
Students who want to be free...

Free to soar through the heavens!
Free to pursue their best dreams!
Free to achieve!
To progress!
To surpass!
The best members
On any team!

Free to blaze a new trail!
Free to follow a star!
Free to be
Who they want to be!
Free to be...who they are!
