In Black and White
Kodachrome

They give us those nice bright colors,
They give us the greens of summer,
Makes us think all the world's a sunny day.
I've got a Nikon camera, I love to take a photograph,
So please don't take my Kodachrome away.
There's another line in Paul Simon's Kodachrome, "Everything looks worse in black and white."
I couldn't disagree more!  Everything being equal, I much prefer B&W photographs, especially in
photography as an
art form.  The subject comes alive in the stark contrast of dark and light.  A talented photographer can use the
shadows to define and re-define a shot.  The most inconspicuous detail in textures will stand out.  Shapes take on
personalities.  There's a richness that can't always be found in color photography.
Okay, I'm a little prejudiced, but a picture's worth a thousand words, so a webpage full of pictures should be worth
quite a bit more.  I'll stop typing, so you can start enjoying the photographs!   Nancy
As evening splendors fade from skies afar,
The Night pins on her dark robe with a large bright star,
And the moon hangs like a high-thrown scimitar.
Vague in the mystic room this side the paling west,
The Tulledegas loom in an eternal rest,
And one by one the lamps are lit in the dome of the Infinite.

-- Alexander Lawrence Posey
Softly, with a silken cutting edge, the fog descends.
And inside, eyes through windows see different versions of reality
.....depending on their point of view
......and the level of the window that they choose
to look out and see it through.

-- Jim Metcalf
Let Fate do her worst; there are relics of joy, bright dreams of the past, which she cannot destroy;
Which come in the night-time of sorrow and care, and bring back the features that joy used to wear.
Long, long be my heart with such memories filled, like the vase in which roses have once been distilled;
You may break, you may shatter the vase, if you will, but the scent of the roses will hang round it still.

-- Thomas Moore
Into my heart's treasury I slipped a coin, that time cannot rust, nor a thief purloin;
Oh, better than the minting of a gold-crowned king is the safe-kept memory of a lovely thing.

-- Sara Teasdale

Since I already provided some links to B&W photography in a
previous journal,  I searched the web and decided on some
New Orleans and Louisiana links instead; however, the first
link is to the journal page with the B&W photo  links.
