Trees of Life

I knew that there
Was not much time;
Stiff leaves were
Dropping fast.
Breath was short
With winter's cold,
And evening soon
Would pass.

With limbs outstretched
So bare and bold,
The tree stood tall
To greet the moon;
Hours on end
Left bark to hold
Crystal flakes
From fallen snow.

Drip, drip, drip,
Dripped the crystal tree,
Long after the moon
Had lost its glow.
Then the sun came up
And gently said,
"Good morning,"
Melting the newly
Fallen snow.

Time slowly dripped
Each day,
Then soon
Sprouted Spring.
And limbs that once
Were bold and bare,
Now, with leaves
Began to lean.

"Just hanging out
In the warm sunshine,
Haven't got a pain,
Everything is just fine!"
Trees showering
In the rain.

And soon again,
There was not much time;
Stiff leaves were
Dropping fast.
Breath was short
With winter's cold,
And evening soon
Would pass.
