| Today, no trace of the battlefield can be found, it's been obscured by the residential, commercial and industrial landscape of present-day life. But in 1912, the city hadn't intruded yet and very little had changed. Some of the nearby homes transformed into make-shift hospitals during and after the fierce battle were still standing, but now, none of those remain. And the fields used as initial burial sites for Union and Confederate soldiers killed in the battle now lie beneath asphalt and concrete. |
