My e-friend, Tony, who lives in Japan, once sent some photos taken at
a beautiful public garden there in the Fall.  Ever since then, I've had
it in mind to devote one of my Autumn pages to Japan.  When I
started searching for pictures, I realized what a wealth of material
there was.  I hope you enjoy your visit to some very lovely
Autumn Japanese gardens.  With a few exceptions, the photos
on this page were taken in Kyoto and Tokyo.   -- Nancy
I saw Autumn
In the misty morning,
Standing shadowless,
Like silence,
Listening to silence.
-- Thomas Hood
Tears, idle tears,
Tears from the depth of some divine despair,
Rise in the heart and gather in the eyes,
When looking on the silent Autumn wood
And thinking of the days that are no more.
-- Alfred, Lord Tennyson
Autumn carries more gold in its hand than all the other seasons
can carry in a dozen steamer trunks.
-- Jim Bishop
Change is a measure of time and, in the Autumn, the change is palpable.  It's
all too clear that what was is not and never again will be.
-- Edwin Way Teale
October...the most
poignant of words...
evoking orange
and scarlet
and gold.
And regret.
-- Alexander Theroux
