The Colors of Burano
Burano is an island in the Venetian Lagoon, just off the coast of northern Italy.  It enjoys
the widely-used description of being "the most colorful place on earth" because of its
brightly painted houses.  It's, also, known for the creation of intricate lace-work.
In addition to many other small islands, the Venetian Lagoon is home to the city
of Venice and is the largest wetland in the Mediterranean Basin.

Friday's Journal
~ The quotes on this page are all attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson. ~
The invariable mark of wisdom is to see the miraculous in the common.
To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something
else is the greatest accomplishment.
~   ~   ~
To fill the hour, that is happiness; to fill the hour, and leave no room for a
repentance or an approval...to finish the moment, to find the journey's end in
every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom.
Life isn't a destination, it's a journey.  We all come upon unexpected curves and
turning points, mountaintops and valleys.  Everything that happens shapes who
we are, and in the adventure of each day, we discover the best in ourselves.
We are rich only through what we give, and poor only through what we refuse.

To know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything that is beautiful;
welcome it in every face, in every sky, in every flower.
The little sign on this house on the island of Burano reads:  "Color is like
music -- it uses a shorter way to get to our senses, to awaken our emotions."
Let us be poised and wise today.  Let us treat the men and women we
meet along the way well...treat them as if they are real.  Perhaps they are.

The years teach much which the days never notice.
God hides things by putting them near us.
Finish every day and be done with it.  You have done what you could.
Tomorrow is a new day, begin it well and serenely.
~   ~   ~
Though we travel the world over to find beauty, we must
carry it with us or we find it not.
