Still Crazy After All These Years

Whispers - Home

Friday's Journal
I start searching for summer every year in November.  I'm not a winter person.  I get
through December saying to myself that it will soon be January and, before long, March.
Then, in no time at all, it will be - mercifully - hot, muggy, beautiful, wonderful summer.
Searching for Summer
People who live in places where winters are brutally cold would laugh at my dislike
of winter here in a semi-tropical climate.  But, if the thermometer dips below 60
degrees, you'll find me with 3 layers of clothes and a fairly grumpy outlook on life.
-- Nancy
I was born on the first day of summer and that may have set my personal climate control
center.  I don't know.  All I know is that, as I make this page, today's the first day of March
and summer can't be far away.  So it's a good day.  A good day to think about summer.
The photos on this page are all from the beautiful (warm) state of Florida.
With the sunshine and warm breezes, the great bursts of
colorful, fragrant flowers, I had a familiar conviction that, with
the summer, life was beginning over again.
-- F. Scott Fitzgerald
In summer, the song sings itself.  -- William Carlos Williams
Summer's a time when wonderful things can happen to ordinary people.
A time when you're not required to be who everyone thinks you are.
That cut-grass smell in the air and the chance to dive into the deep end
of a pool give you a courage you may not always possess.  Summer
seems to just open the door and let you out.
-- Deb Caletti
To me, summertime is always the best of what might be.  -- Charles Bowden
Rest is not idleness, and to be sometimes on the grass under trees on a
summer day, listening to the murmur of the water or watching the clouds
float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.
-- John Lubbock
A perfect summer day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing,
the birds are singing and the lawn mower is broken.
-- James Dent
If summer could talk, it would probably boast that it invented
romance.
-- Bern Williams
Saturday leading up to the last week of school and into summer, that, of course,
was all the Saturdays of your life rolled into one big shiny ball.
-- Nora Roberts

Summer afternoon, summer afternoon, to me those have always been
the two most beautiful words in the English language.
-- Henry James
It was a never-to-be-forgotten summer...one of those summers which come
as near to perfection as anything can come in this world.
-- L. M. Montgomery
Who doesn't appreciate a beautiful summer day?  -- Ken Schroeder
