Christmas
in
Ireland
The photographs on this page were taken in Ireland.  A few of the old
Irish toasts and blessings date all the way back to the Celtic oral tradition.

May only peace and plenty lift the latch of your door and may
happiness be guided to your home by the light of the Candle of Christmas.
May the raindrops fall lightly on your brow,
May the soft winds freshen your spirit,
May the sunshine brighten your heart,
May you be met with peace and good will
In all of your goings and comings.
God bless the corners of your house and be the lintel blest,
And bless the hearth and bless the board and bless each place of rest,
And bless each door that opens wide to strangers and to kin,
And bless each crystal window pane that lets the starlight in,
And bless the ceilings overhead and every sturdy wall --
The peace of man, the peace of God, the peace of love on all.
May the blessing of the gentle rain be on you.
May it fall upon your spirit so that flowers spring up
and shed their sweetness on the air.
where the blue of heaven shines . . .
and sometimes a star.
May the blessing of the great rains be on you.
May they beat upon your spirit and wash it fair and clean
and leave there many a shining pool
The light of the Christmas star to you, the warmth of home and hearth to you,
The cheer and good will of friends to you, the hope of a childlike heart to you,
The joy of a thousand angels to you, the love of God's peace to you.
May you always find blue skies above you,
Shamrocks beneath your feet,
Laughter and joy aplenty,
Kindness from all those you meet,
May you always have walls for the wind,
A roof for the rain and tea beside the fire.
Good friends and kin to miss you,
If ever you choose to roam,
And a path that's been cleared by the angels,
To bring you safely home.
May you be poor in misfortune and rich in blessings,
May your burdens rest lightly upon your shoulders.
May you see your children's children,
And may God enfold all of you in the mantle of His love.
