A Light That Guides
The Lismore lighthouse, pictured above, is one of the most scenic lighthouses in
Scotland.  It's located on an islet just off the coast of the Isle of Lismore.  Constructed in
1833, the lighthouse protects shipping lanes that port to the Inner and Outer Hebrides,
as well as, access to the Caledonian Canal.  Robert Selkirk, a descendant of castaway
Alexander Selkirk, was the first lightkeeper.  Lismore was a rock station, relieved
fortnightly, with four lightkeepers stationed there.  The men had six weeks' duty,
followed by two weeks ashore.  In 1910, most of the area's lighthouses were changed to
a dioptric lens, but Lismore and Fidra were left as the only remaining purely catoptric
lights in service.  The lightkeepers were withdrawn in 1965, when the lighthouse was
converted to automatic operation.
A beautiful structure - in a magnificent setting - the lighthouse attracts photographers
from all over the world.
The Isle of Lismore was home to my Carmichael and McCormick ancestors.

Friday's Journal
I wish I could show you, when you are lonely or in darkness,
the astonishing light of your own being.
-- Hafiz
A sacred place dwells within our hearts, where dreams are born and secrets
sleep...a mystical refuge of darkness and light, fear and conquest, challenge
and transformation.  Our hearts speak for our souls, the whispering beat
repeats a simple refrain - begin.   Begin, again.
--  Royce Addington
The greatest discoveries are those that shed light
unto ourselves.
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson
If you lend your light to one person, then he or she can shine it on another
and another and another.  When you make loving others the story of your life,
there's never a final chapter, because the legacy continues.
-- Oprah Winfrey
We cannot hold a torch to light another's path
without brightening our own.
-- Ben Sweetland
