New Orleans is a little different than most places during the holidays. For instance, Santa doesn't use a sleigh... |
...he goes on his rounds in a pirogue pulled by alligators. |
Or, if he's running late, something a little faster, like a fishing boat or a shrimp trawler. |
Instead of snow-covered pine cones and holly, wreaths tend to be decorated with crustaceans... |
...or funny little snowmen with wings and upside-down ice cream cone caps. |
...ditto on the tree ornaments. |
...and we match the color of our holiday bows with the "survivor count" markings on our houses, just to show that we survived...and we're proud of that. |
And, instead of hanging mistletoe from the ceiling, we're partial to Mardi Gras beads and fleur de lis... |
Our banks dress up in holiday colors... |
And we put the word "home" up in holiday lights, because we know there's no place like home... and we know we'll never forget how true that is. |
