Constructed in 1907, the Neo-Classical Peristyle in City Park is one of the park's oldest and most recognizable structures. It was originally designed as a dance pavillion. Four magnificent concrete lions guard the Peristyle next to steps leading down to the edge of Bayou Metairie. Ducks, geese and swans swim by during the day and, at night, the lights of the Peristyle are dramatically reflected on the Bayou. The photo above was taken in 1929. -- Nancy |
