When I start searching for photos for a specific place for one of my web pages, I never know how much success I'll have. I've started some pages with optimism, believing there would be a great many pictures available, only to have to search in every nook and cranny of cyberspace, for a very long time, to find enough photos to fill a page. On the other hand, I've sometimes started searching for a place that I believed would never supply enough images, only to find an almost unlimited number of photos. When I decided to do a page on Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, I imagined that I would find enough images of the three countries to fill one page. This held true for El Salvador and Honduras, but when I came to Guatemala, I found a treasure trove of many scenic images. I kept saving them, until I finally found myself with enough photos of Guatemala to fill a page all on its own. The pictures on this page are from El Salvador and Honduras. My next page will feature Guatemala. They are all beautiful countries, all steeped in incredible history and, sadly, all currently going through turbulent and dangerous times. The title of the page comes from a quote by Helen Keller: "Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it." And full of tireless, selfless souls who aid in the overcoming of suffering with love, kindness and resolve. This page is dedicated to them. -- Nancy |
Can you hear the prayer of the children? On bended knee, in the shadow of an unknown room, Empty eyes, with no more tears to cry, Turning heavenward toward the light. Can you feel the hearts of the children? Aching for home, for something of their very own, Reaching hands, with nothing to hold on to, Except hope for a better day. Except hope for a better day. -- Kurt Bestor |

Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive. -- Dalai Lama |
Today, more than ever before, life must be characterized by a sense of Universal responsibility, not only nation to nation, but human to human. -- Dalai Lama |
Compassion asks us to go where it hurts, To enter into the places of pain, To share in brokenness, fear and anger. Compassion challenges us To cry out with those who are in misery, To mourn with those who are in tears. Compassion requires us to be Vulnerable with the vulnerable, And powerless with the powerless. Compassion means full immersion Into the condition of being human. -- Henri J. M. Nouwen |
If you can, help others; if you cannot do that, at least do not harm them. -- Dalai Lama |
Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible. -- Dalai Lama |
