Patchwork

in the beautiful states of Oregon and Washington.
Patchwork

It's like this old patchwork quilt my mama used to have.  Each piece
on that old quilt meant something.
Some of those pieces were the ugliest things you've ever seen, but some
of the pieces were so beautiful they almost hurt my eyes to look at.
That's the best you can hope for, that your life turns out like that patch-
work quilt - that you never lose hope that you can keep adding some
bright, sparkling pieces to the dirty, stained ones you have so far.
That, in the end, the beautiful patches on your quilt might take up
considerable more space than the ugly ones.

Leave people better than you found them.  Be the one who nurtures and builds.
Be the one who has a forgiving heart, the one who looks for the best in others...
...and in yourself.
-- Marvin Ashton
If anything matters, then everything matters.  Because you are important, everything
you do is important.  Every time you forgive, the universe changes; every time you
reach out and touch a heart or a life, the world changes; with every kindness, a
purpose is accomplished and nothing will be the same again.
-- W. Paul Young
The willingness to forgive is a sign of spiritual and emotional maturity.  Imagine a world
filled with individuals willing both to apologize and to accept an apology.  Is there any
problem that could not be solved among people who possessed the humility and
largeness of spirit to do either - or both - when needed?
-- Gordon Hinckley
Forgiving does not erase the past - a healed memory is not a deleted memory.
But forgiving creates a new way to remember - one in which we change the
memory of our past into a hope for our future.
-- Louis Smeden
In the autumn, I gathered all of my sorrows and buried them in my garden.  When April
returned, there grew in my garden beautiful flowers unlike all other flowers in the village.
And my neighbors came to see them, and they said to me, "When autumn comes again,
at seeding time, will you give us the seeds of these flowers so that we may have them
in our gardens, too?
-- Kahilil Gibran

Life is grace.  Sleep is forgiveness.  The night wipes the slate clean - not spotless
to be sure - but clean enough for another day's chalking.
-- Frederick Buechner
I wondered if that was how forgiveness budded; not with the fanfare of epiphany,
but with pain gathering its things, packing up and slipping away unannounced
in the middle of the night.
-- Khaled Hosseini
"I know that I shall make beastly mistakes, Father."
"The world does not forgive mistakes so quickly, my girl."
"If the world will not forgive me," I said softly, "Then I shall
just have to learn to forgive myself."
-- Libba Bray
