The Big Picture
We're so caught up in the daily minutiae of life that we often forget to stand back and take a look at the
big picture.  My larger view is summed up in a short quote I once found.  You'd think it would be easy
to remember, but sometimes it's not.  That's when I pull out the tattered piece of paper I stuck in my
wallet many years ago and take another look at the big picture:  "When money is lost, nothing is lost,
when health is lost, something is lost, when character is lost, everything is lost."
-- Ryan Seibert

Guard well within yourself that treasure, kindness.  Learn
to give without hesitation, to lose without regret and
to acquire without meanness.
-- George Sand
Life is short, my young friend, so think what is good, speak what is kind and
never forget that life's real treasures are people, not things.
-- Steve Goodier
The test of character is not how much we know how to do, but
how we behave when we don't know what to do.
-- John Holt
We don't become heroes overnight...just by taking a step at a time, meeting each thing
that comes along, seeing that it is not as dreadful as it first appeared, discovering we
have the strength and character to stare it down.
-- Eleanor Roosevelt
Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve.  You don't have to have a college
degree to serve.  You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve.  You only
need a heart full of grace...a soul generated by love.
-- Martin Luther King, Jr.
He said a strange thing - it was years before I understood what he meant.  He said that
sometimes it took more courage to be kind than to be brave, that kindness to others in
the face of our own adversities was a more dependable indicator of character than
fearlessness in the face of battle.  I believe, now, that he was right.
-- Simon Trumbull
